UK wild bird numbers continue to fall

Goverment figures show that populations of woodland and farmland birds are at a record low, while seabirds are still above the level from 1970.

The farmlans birds had a peak in the 1970s, but fourty years later the populations has halved. The woodland birds are experiencing a 24% decline. according to RSPB the decline of farmland birds is more clear than for woodland birds. The habitats from farmland birds changes which means fewer nesting sites and food shortages were blamed from last summer. The solution for farmland birds could be rested on the farmers. They should get rewarded for managing their land in an enviromentally friendly way so the future for the farmland birds could be secured.

reaction: I always find this an interesting topic, because with these kind of things you can see how fragile nature can be. The slightest changes can have a huge impact for some animals. These changes can sometimes mean the extinction of a species. I find it great that there are people who are committed to these little birds to keep them alive and try to increase the amount of the populations.
