Three time major winner Padraig Harrington is for the second time in his career disqualified from an event he had a good chance of winning. He did not tee off in the second round because of an incident at the seventh green.
Padraig Harrington's hand brushed his ball on the seventh green after he replaced it in front of his marker. The ball rolled forward, but Padraig thought that the ball returned to its original position. The referees did not see this, and Harrington had signed his scorecard. A viewer brought the referees to the attention of the moving ball. On tv was clearly seen that the ball did not go back to its original position, and so Padraig did not get a two shot penalty but disqualification.
reaction: I play this game myself and the way the rules written down is sometimes quite confusing, but in most of the time quite clear. This moment with padraig is quite clear, and normally he would get a two shot penalty but he had already signed his scorecard. This means that he handed in a scorecard with the wrong score, and that results in disqualification. These things happens and he is lucky that it is not one of the Masters. You have to stay concentrated throughout the whole 18 holes and this also counts when you are just picking up your ball.
